If you’re a fan of freshly-baked pita bread, you’ll be happy to know that it’s easier to make than you might think! With just a few simple ingredients and some time to let the dough rise, you can create soft and delicious pita bread right in your own kitchen.
Pita Bread Ingredients:
- 1⅛ cups warm water (110°F)
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1½ teaspoons white sugar
- 1½ teaspoons active dry yeast
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.
- Add the flour, salt, and vegetable oil to the yeast mixture and stir until the dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F and place a baking sheet inside to heat up.
- Divide the dough into 8 pieces and roll each piece into a smooth ball. Use a rolling pin to roll each ball into a 6 to 7-inch circle.
- Carefully remove the hot baking sheet from the oven and place the pita bread circles on it. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the bread begins to puff up and the bottom has brown spots.
- Serve the pita bread warm with your favorite dips or fillings. Enjoy!
