Fresh Pita Bread

If you’re a fan of freshly-baked pita bread, you’ll be happy to know that it’s easier to make than you might think! With just a few simple ingredients and some time to let the dough rise, you can create soft and delicious pita bread right in your own kitchen.

Pita Bread Ingredients:

  • 1⅛ cups warm water (110°F)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1½ teaspoons white sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons active dry yeast

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.
  2. Add the flour, salt, and vegetable oil to the yeast mixture and stir until the dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Preheat your oven to 450°F and place a baking sheet inside to heat up.
  5. Divide the dough into 8 pieces and roll each piece into a smooth ball. Use a rolling pin to roll each ball into a 6 to 7-inch circle.
  6. Carefully remove the hot baking sheet from the oven and place the pita bread circles on it. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the bread begins to puff up and the bottom has brown spots.
  7. Serve the pita bread warm with your favorite dips or fillings. Enjoy!
